January 26, 2006

Winter Vacations was a great theme for our meeting on Jan 26 (the day after the snow storm closed schools & some highways)
George started us off with his airport security check joke – do you know why knitting needles are prohibited on flights? -- Old lady may knit an Af….. Oops, you know what!
Chair John followed up with another plane joke with hunters trying to get their 2 moose home – funny thing, same thing happened previous year!
Marie’s Toast to Canada concentrated on our natural beauty with snow & ice on limbs (tree that is)
Surfacing from Monday’s Election, Audrey proposed ‘truthiness’ meaning perceived to be true, as our challenge for use this meeting.
First Speaker Jane gave us a fascinating demonstration on Quilting. The equipment & precision necessary interested us all.
Then second Speaker Keith helped us imagine a winter vacation in New Zealand—that would be in August – no snowmobiling & he’ll be broke for a long while IF he, Jane & Melissa go to meet up with Cameron (son).
Allan had a mischievous time setting up our two minute Table Topics (with little prep!) We had to speak on our holiday in unexpected locations remembering Opening, Body & Conclusion (& truthiness).
Diane & John gave smooth helpful evaluations of the speeches & Brenda wound up with the General Evaluation. Oh Marie described her frustrations with the stopwatch hilariously, & we’ll need to buy another before Contests night.
After Snack we had an Exec meeting. In order to earn any Distinguished Club status, Linguists needs more members out & completing projects.
How to accomplish this is the rub.

Brenda
