February 9, 2006

It was a fun Valentines meeting on Thursday February 9, 2006 as Toastmaster met for their weekly meeting. Linda P started the meeting with a humourous story about Chairperson Gary. Gary did an excellent job as chair. He skillfully told Valentine stories about each member. He kept us laughing with the details, jokes and stories.

Heidy presented a Toast to Canada and reminded everyone on the importance of freedom of speech. Heidy had recently attended a public meeting where she was ready to hand out Toastmaster cards inviting the politicians to a Toastmaster meeting. Heidy had a great idea to offer a training course for politicians especially since the municipal elections are happening this year.

George’s new word was “boondoggle” which means “any unnecessary or useless labour”. Jane read a story about Super Wrench for literary corner. Allan presented a very educational speech called “Are you Prepared”. Are you prepared if the power goes off for one or more days? He taught us five important steps that we should do to be prepared in case of a power failure. Heidy Schmidt did an outstanding job in evaluating Allan.

Audrey presented a timely Educational Workshop called “Evaluate to Motivate”. She gave out an excellent handout that covered the 10 behaviors of an effective evaluator. A round table evaluation gave Audrey many valuable glow points and grows points. Devin and Nicole stepped up to conduct Table Topics. It was a fun round with Audrey receiving the most votes. Keith recapped the evening as the General Evaluator.

Be sure to attend the next meeting on Thursday February 16th at 7:14 pm. This is the date of our International and Evaluation contest. Please plan to attend this fun evening. Everyone is invited. The contest will be held at St Pauls Lutheran Church at 505 Wallace Ave N, Listowel.
