January 19, 2006

The Linguist of Listowel had a night of 100 laughs as we gathered to celebrate the theme of "Flu Remedies". Marie skillfully chaired the meeting and kept everyone laughing as she incorporated each fu remedy into the introduction of the next person. Diane presented a Canadian toast where she instrusted everyone to pick up a car load of people and take them to vote. Allan gave us the new word "Prostration" which means to be utterly defeated or physically exhausted.

Keith presented speech number five from the Special Occasion Speeches manual. His speech was called Mr Scrouge. Brenda presented speech number seven from the CTM manual. She did an excellent job in telling us about Afghanistan where her son in law is stationed with our Canadian Forces. Ezra Steckly evaluated Keith's speech and Jane evaluated Brenda's speech.

George provided the entertaining topics for Table Topics. Each person had to pick a slip of paper from the envelope and explain what their occupation was, what they were sick with and what home remedy they would use. There was lots of laughter as everyone had a chance to explain why their home remedy worked. Gary received the most votes as he told us why he could not miss work as a waitress at Al Jerkys. He did say waitress.

Gary was also involved as the quizmaster. He kept us guessing with "who said that". Gary replayed some of the funnier quotes from the evening. Audrey did a splended job as General Evaluator. The evening ended with Marie giving us some final laughs on flu remedies. Everyone then enjoyed Allan's muffins.

Bring your friends to next weeks meeting with the theme "Suggested Winter Vacations" on Thursday January 26th at St Pauls Lutheran Church, 505 Wallace Ave, Listowel at 7:14 pm.

Keith
