January 12, 2006

It was a very interesting evening, Jan 12 with Small Claims Court as our theme. Gary started us off with a couple appropriate court jokes & John kept our attention with more. (John admitted to being the best doctor in the country, while under oath) As Language Enricher John challenged us with ‘notwithstanding’ which means nevertheless or although. I still can’t get its sense.
Audrey read us a provocative poem titled ‘In Touch’ by Fran McRae.
Brenda delivered the Education Module “The Leader as a Coach.”
It had some great tips for Team Leaders besides mouthing praise & encouragement. With team members not meeting expectations, the Coach must meet, & work, to improve the members’ & the team’s performance.
Table Topics was full of laughs as members defended themselves for some infraction such as being angry, grumpy, wrong, not ready…
We, being only 7, had 2 rounds of 1 minute each. George, Gary & Audrey starred.
Ken gave us a glowing evaluation of the meeting. He offered an interesting & helpful tip for Call to Order: sound the gavel at proposed Starting Time, then announce when the meeting will really start, perhaps in 5 minutes. This allows members to use extra time wisely.
Finally we circled George’s ‘treats’ & talked or listened to Federal elections issues as several TMs had attended the All Candidates meeting the previous night.
As I started, it was a very interesting night.
