May 26, 2011 - Theme: Mom/Dads the Word

Hello Fellow Linguists of Listowel and Friends,

At last Thursday's Linguists of Listowel meeting, we had a very fun and enjoyable time. There was 11 members in attendance. I called the meeting to order and introduced Heidi Menzi as our chairperson. Heidi opened the meeting by describing her role as chairperson and telling her thoughts on family and children with our theme of "Moms/Dads the Word".

I started the laughs going with a joke for Joke of the Day. Audrey Orth held the role of Toast and Timer and she gave a toast to Canada and telling us that everyday should be Mother's/Father's day. Lorna VanderPloeg held the role of Grammarian and she challenged us to use the word "Disambiguation" which means a work of art or as a group of anonymous people. Disambiguation was used 5 times by one person, Diane Bender.

Our first speaker was Keith McCluskie with Speech # 10 out of his CC called "Memories". It was a very inspiring and entertaining speech. Next, Jane Stoltz did an Educational Corner that was where she reviewed the results of her survey on Survey Monkey.

As Table Topics Master, Diane Bender had cute sayings that moms or dads have used throughout time. Jane Stoltz was the winner with her saying "Get Your Elbows Off the Table, This is Not a
Horse's Stable"

George gave a great evaluation for Keith McCluskie, remembering some of Keith's quotes that were used throughout his speech. Congratulations to Keith McCluskie as he has achieved his CC!!! Keith Stoltz gave the meeting an evaluation on starting first with the grow points, good, very good and lastly very, very good aspects of the meeting. Sharon D'Arcey tested our listening skills from the meeting as Quiz Master.

We were finished our meeting by 9:00 p.m. and had a brief fellowship.

Please join us at next week's meeting with the theme, "A World of Opportunities"

Brent
