June 2, 2011 - Theme: A World of Opportunities

Hello Fellow Linguists of Listowel and Friends,

Thursday's Linguists of Listowel meeting was yet another fun meeting filled with lots of laughs. There was 11 members in attendance. Heidi Menzi called the meeting to order and introduced myself as the chairperson. I opened the meeting by telling everyone some of the experiences that I have experienced and some that I wish to get the opportunity to do with our theme of "A World of Opportunities".

Heidi Menzi held the role of Toast and Timer and she gave a toast to Canada and all the great opportunities. Jane Stoltz for Literary Corner read from the New Zealand Bed and Breakfast Guide 2010 and talked about her vacation. Keith Stoltz held the role of Grammarian and he challenged us to use the word "Spry" which means nimble. Spry was used 3 times.

Our speaker for the meeting was Sharon Diehl with Speech # 4 out of her Competent Communicator Manual called "The Farmer's Wife". It was a very humorous and entertaining speech. Next, we had an Award Ceremony for Keith McCluskie completing his 10th speech and earning his Competent Communicator certificate.

Leo Brisebois was our Table Topics Master and he had everyone pick an Opportunity out of the envelope. There was a tie for the winner between Keith McCluskie and Sharon Diehl

Audrey Orth gave a great evaluation for Sharon's speech. Keith McCluskie gave the meeting an evaluation as our General Evaluator.

After our meeting we enjoyed some refreshments provided by Lucy D'Arcey. The club's executive had a business meeting.

Please join us at next week's meeting with the theme, "Yes, We Can"

Brent
