Linguists of Listowel

Linguists of Listowel
October 5, 2006
The theme was "Challenges" when the Linguists of Listowel met at St. Pauls Lutheran church. Audrey gave the Call to Order and introduced chairperson Marie. Gary presented the loyal toast. Georges' new word for the day was Syllogism. Keith presented literary corner and Jane followed with tips or useless tips. Diane got everyone laughing with her humorous speech "Frazzled". Most people could identify with losing their car in a parking lot. Marie challenged the members with table topics. There was a round table evaluation for Diane's speech. A short business meeting followed the regular meeting. An ad will be placed in the banner and the independant plus for the upcoming Western Division Contest at the Kin Station on October 20, 2006.

The meeting began at 7:15 with the call to order by chairperson Allan. Marie introduced special guest Sandra. Audrey presented the loyal toast and mentioned Canadians have much to be thankful for at Thanksgiving. Janes' word for the evening was flummery which can mean sweet dishes or empty compliments. This word was used at least six times during the evening. Diane read "A Turkey of a Tale" by Cynthia Borris. Keith told a story about a lost passport. It did have a happy ending. Sheryl gave some true or false questions- food for thought! George had a turkey story for the Believe it or Not section of the meeting.
Brian did a dramatic presentation that had everyone laughing. He did an excellent job complete with a costume and props. Marie evaluated his speech.
Keith had a bag of household untensils and asked everyone to tell how they would use their item to prepare their turkey for thanksgiving dinner. Our guest Sandra won with her ideas for an icecream scoop!
There was a round table evaluation of the meeting and refreshments were enjoyed.
