Meeting - September 29, 2005

Theme: Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest

Call to order by Linda D. at 7:19 p.m. Quite a few guests present for our contest tonight as well as members from 2 other Toastmasters Clubs in the area. Harvey chaired the meeting and had every guest introduce themselves. Audrey explained the rules and purpose of the humorous contest. Harvey announced all contestants as follows for the Humorous Speech Contest:

Contestant & Speech Title

Marie - Piles and Pylons – a review of the extensive road construction being done in and surrounding the Listowel area this summer – well done Marie
Linda P - Saved by the Bell – a very humorous speech about her grand kids visiting her and how the “sound of the bell” was such a huge relief!
George - Why is the plowing match called the plowing match? – lots of humour and reminder the plowing match is a whole lot more than plowing – well done George
Keith - I love cats – hilariously funny, a story how he lost the battle with the dreaded cat…great job Keith
Heidy - Making lots of money from a nuisance – hey great job Heidy…it never occurred to me that a speech about flies could be so funny…..well done and we all liked the costume too
Brian - I’ve had it- A hilarious speech about telemarketers, thank you Brian for helping us all to see some humour in regards to telemarketers.

The second phase of our contest tonight was the Humorous Table Topics portion. We had 5 contestants in all:

Brian, Jane, Keith, Diane, Marie a great job by everyone!

And the winners are…….(drum role)…….Linda P runner up and Keith 1st, way to go contestants for the humorous speech contest.

Table topics winners……..(drum role again)……3rd place was Diane, 2nd place was Jane and 1st place was Keith…..way to go contestants. Very entertaining and enjoyable evening.

Anything for the good of toastmasters – reminder – membership dues are due!
