Meeting - September 15,2005

Linguists of Listowel Toastmasters Club met at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Listowel on Thursday Sept. 15, 2005. They had a terrific time as 13 members participated with the theme “Defense Plea”. George is always great at getting the audience warmed up with one of his jokes and getting the meeting off to a fantastic start. He introduced our chairperson for the evening Ken. Ken is very experienced and has been involved in toastmasters clubs since 1972.
Brenda handled the toast and the microphone with confidence and kept very accurate timing throughout the evening. Linda P. word for the meeting was 'deposition' meaning sworn evidence. It was used 18 times during the meeting.
Jane presented an educational program on how to handle table topics. You only have one to two minutes to get your point across. You must remember to listen, pause, confirm, tell, and end. The Table Topics contest is Sept 29th so we needed to practice what we had just learned. Everyone did well with Brian's Table Topics. Each member had to plead “guilty” or “Innocent” to minor disdemeanors such as “taking candy from a child” to “feeding your husbands' cooking to the dog!”

Our speaker for the evening was Heidi. She shared and inspirational speech on hope. Marie gave an excellent evaluation. Daine presentented a very effective evaluation of the meeting. We conducted a short business meeting. Fees are due now. They are $60 semi annually or $120 for the year. Marie moved that the new member fee remain the same. Brenda seconded it and was carried.
Brenda moved that the initial fee for new members be $20 and $120 for the annual fee for a total of $140 for new members for the first year. The fee would be pro-rated during the year. Linda P. seconded the motion.
Carried.
The meeting closed at 9:05

Everyone is invited to attend the humorous speech and table topic contest so invite your neighbours, your friends and your relatives to this fun event Sept 29, 2005. The agenda is full so come for a fun evening.
Secretary for the evening Diane
