Linguists of Listowel
“Born to Win” was the theme for tonight’s meeting and everyone in attendance was a winner! We had almost perfect attendance. Eighteen out of twenty members were present. We also welcomed our Area Governor Diana Snowden and Trudy Baron, President of Toastmasters of Hanover. It was great to have a full house and enjoy the momentum created by so many people striving to “Listen, Laugh, Learn and Lead.”
Keith Stoltz chaired the meeting with enthusiasm and humour. He gave encouragement to all participants and answered their questions before the meeting when he checked if they were prepared for their role. Sharon Diehl called the meeting to order, which was a challenge because of the excellent attendance! Now we know we have to come early to get a seat.
George Nichol was toast and timer. He referred to the Olympics where participants were challenged to win for their country. Rich had us all laughing with his joke of the day.
Brent Jemmett gave us the word “Pelf” which refers to ill gotten gains. It was used four times. Everyone listened well to Marilyn Hynes’ emotional Literary Corner entitled “Born to Win”. Well done Marilyn.
We welcomed a new member George Stevers. Keith McCluskie performed the induction ceremony. Brian Camacho will be George’s mentor.
Area Governor Diana Snowden gave an excellent Educational session on the Competent Leader Manual. She used many examples and answered lots of questions. The Linguists of Listowel will be working hard on this manual now that they understand the requirements. Thank you Diana.
Diana Snowden also presented pins to Jane Stoltz for achieving her second competent communicator and to Diane Bender for her ACG award.
Sharon D’Arcey wowed us with her speech “Survival” Project 4 in CC manual. We are so glad she survived her airplane crash and lived to tell the tale! She used clear, vivid and forceful words to add excitement to her speech. Keith McCluskie was her evaluator and gave her many glow points and a couple of areas to grow on. Great job.
Table Topics was conducted by Heidi Menzi. She challenged members to remember inspirational moments in their lives referring to the slip of paper they chose from an envelope. There were three winners Rich, Rhea and Keith M.
Jessica Kelly presented an excellent General evaluation for a very dynamic meeting.
Sharon Diehl provided the yummy snacks for the evening.
Thanks to the members of the executive for staying later to finalize upcoming events.
