Linguists of Listowel
"The Journey" was the theme for this evenings meeting. Audrey gave a heartwarming memorial to Brenda. She passed away last month after a long battle with cancer and she will be dearly missed. She was an experienced toastmaster and had earned the toastmasters highest award, her DTM.
Brian chaired the meeting and welcomed all members. Diane gave the loyal toast to Canada. She mentioned the hard work Canadian garderners go to as winter approaches. There are many fall flowers that continue to bloom well into October.
George presented the word Soliloquize or Soliloquy which means talking to oneself. Sheryl read an article on pie baking for literary corner. She used a gread deal of expression so people could just picture someone baking a pie.
Marie presented an advanced manual speech on public relations. She explained how important it is to set goals in our toastmasters club and to encourage everyone else to set goals as well. Public relations are very important in getting new members to join and experience the journey to speaking competently.
Jane chaired the table topics portion of the meeting. Since the table topics competition is next week everyone had the opportunity to speak for two minutes about what journey they would take if they won a specified amount in an instant lottery. It was hilarious! George, Diane and Gary tied for third place, Keith was second and Brian was the winner! Gary challenged everyone as quiz master.
Keith was general evaluator and gave lots of glow and grow points. He stressed we should follow the agenda and not get sidetracked. Chairman Brian challenged everyone to plan to do two speeches before Christmas. Members are invited to attend Mount Forest Motivators on Tuesday evening for their humourous and table topics speech contest.
