Greetings to all Fellow Toastmasters -
We had a wonderful summer meeting at the Schmidt’s home – thank you to Heidy and Harvey for hosting it. It was great to see your farm and what great food! Thanks to Heidy for all your hard work, oh yes, and you too Harvey. We had a great turnout – a total of 15 members and 1 guest Gary. Heidy did a wonderful job of chairing the meeting with the theme appropriately being summer sunsets. We are truly blessed this year with wonderful warm days and equally gorgeous sunsets. Ezra was wonderful to spontaneously arise to the occasion to conduct the toast to Canada. Audrey once again did a delightful job of language enricher by using the word “cacophony” which is a noun and means ill sound or discord. Diane did a wonderful job of Literary Corner by reading an article called “Why I joined Thinkers Anonymous” very entertaining and thought provoking – thanks Brenda, great job. It was wonderful to hear Erinne present her first speech “the ice breaker”. You did an amazing job Erinne, and it was “lucky for all of us” to hear your wonderful life story. I am really looking forward to hearing your next speech. Brian also did a fantastic job by presenting his speech and it was called “Thank-you, I appreciate it.” Brian appropriately worked in the successes of his day, in that he was notified of a new job offer. Way to go Brian, congratulations. As I said at the meeting, Marie you are my hero, you did an impromptu by acting like you were in a job interview for a bartender. Amazing job, you are great on your feet! John did table topics to-night, “tough questions John”, but this is what we need to keep us sharp. We had a combination of evaluators tonight and they were Keith, George, Heidy, Ken, Jane, Marie and Audrey, Keith and Brian giving feedback to Erin, Brian and Marie. Ezra gave the timers report at the end of the evening.
It was also noted by Audrey that all toastmasters are encouraged to bring goodies to the meetings – please take turns, it will be either feast or famine, but it always has a way of working out. The really great news came at the end of the night which Gary announced that he was planning on joining Toastmasters....great news Gary and welcome! The meeting adjourned at 8:45 – oh yes, we missed seeing the sunset tonight but the meeting was equally as entertaining and enjoyable ….. see you all in 3 weeks - the first fall meeting on September 8, 2005 at 7:15pm

Our Tall Tales Contest was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 7:15 p.m. We had 7 contestants consisting of Brian, Brenda, Keith, Harvey, Marie, Linda, and Allan. First Place winner is Allan, second runner up is Keith and Third Runner up is Harvey.
Congratulations to all who participated and also to those who assisted with the contest. We had approximately 30 people in attendance. Our First Place Winner - Allan will go to the Mt. Forest Motivators Club on Tuesday August 16th.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday August 18th at Harvey and Heidy's place.

July 7th Meeting
A fun filled summer nights evening meeting was held at the home of Keith and Jane's.
The evenings theme was table topics and a wide variety was enjoyed by all.
Part one entailed picking a magazine advertisement and telling why they do not want this particular product;
Living in a Weird place and defending it; Unusual words and giving a definition for it; and playing the role of Dear Abbey. A 20 minute lunch and refreshment break was enjoyed by all. Part two consisted of speaking in sentences to create a story from the last letter of the last word that began the next sentence for a different speaker and gestures where one person spoke about a topic and the other person acted it out.
By the way Keith your furious bear acting was great and well as Bryan's uplifting muscle power display. Everyone's enthusiasm created a fantastic meeting.
Next meeting will be on July 21st at John's straw house.

June 23, 2005 Meeting
Good Morning Fellow Toastmasters.
Another great meeting was held last night at the Golden Barrel Restaurant. Audrey started the meeting and she did a fantastic job. Thank-you Audrey. Dianne B. did the toast to Canada and also did an excellent job. You both deserve several rounds of Applause. I chaired the meeting and with the theme being Home Remedies we had fun. Linda P was our Language Enricher and she used the work Poultice how appropriate. Grace gave us all some great ideas when she did Literary Corner. Do you realize how good onions and garlic are for you.
Some awards where handed out and we will soon have the opportunity to hand some more out. Congratulations to everyone.
We had two speakers last night, John did point of view and Brian did counter point. Lets get together around a campfire some evening and continue on with this discussion, it would be fun.
Jane was our table topic master and this was fun also, Thank-you Jane.

June 16, 2005 Meeting
What a lot of laughter and fun! Our theme was antonyms. Diane Bender commenced the meeting
with a doctor joke aimed at John, however the audience was much amused. John chaired the evening with his awesome wit and humour throughout the entire meeting. Allan took the role of toast and timer with much ease considering he was asked on the last minute. Audrey Orth presented the club for the evening with the word ideogram which means a picture or symbol. George gave the members a humourous fishing story from Chicken Soup for the Father's Soul. Grace awed the audience with an impromtu speech on What Were You Doing on the Hottest Week in June of 2005? She retold her story of building a brick walkway to their new gazebo. Linda Piper spoke with ease and grace on Going Beyond the Club educational module.
Table Topics gave the members an opportunity to introduce someone in the club who were present and talk for one minute on their bad points and then quickly speech on the person's good points. June 9, 2005 Meeting
It was a fun night as Toastmasters gathered to celebrate the theme of Potluck Suppers. Ken got the meeting started with a funny story about eating. John was the chairperson. John used his humour throughout the meeting by telling funny “potluck” stories about each of the members.
George presented the club with a Loyal Toast. He made us proud that we are Canadians. For Language Enricher, Keith presented the word ameliorate. Ameliorate is a verb which means to improve. Example: I am trying to ameliorate my writing ability to make this column more enjoyable.
Linda D was in charge of Literary Corner. She spoke on a book written by David Kuhl MD called What Dying People Want. This was a very educational and enjoyable literary corner. Diane B. presented her 10th speech to earn her Silver. Congratulations Diane B. Diane gave a very entertaining speech called The Nourishing Power of Laughter. She told us how important it is to laugh and how more laughter will bring more members to our meetings. Ken did an outstanding job evaluating Diane.
Linda P gave us an Educational Module called Creating an Introduction. Linda taught us the importance of creating an outstanding introduction. We had lots of fun as Brenda guided us through Table Topics. There were too many laughs to count as each member tried to speak for one minute. Ken was today’s winner in table topics.
Allan wrapped up the meeting as General Evaluator. He gave us many glow points and some grow points. Thank you Allan for your participation in this role.

May 26, 2005 Meeting
Good Day to Everyone
Last night May 26th. the Awesome Linquists of Listowel met again. Our Theme was Yard Work.
Brian started the meeting with the call to order and a great joke. Gentleman, if you are going to fool around make sure you do not end up hiding in a refrigerator. Thanks Brian for a good laugh. I chaired the meeting and had fun. How can you help but not to have a great time with the members we have. John was our Loyal Toast and Timer and Brenda was our Language Enricher. Great job by both of you. We had four speakers, Felix who spoke on a New Phase in Farming, Diane, whose speech was titled A Healthy World For All People and Jane who spoke from the Special Occasion Speeches manual to do a roast. She roasted her husband Keith. Stay tuned to next weeks meeting and we will find out how their evening together was when they went home.
Audrey did an Educational Module on Building a Team. All the speeches where excellent and Audrey’s Module was very interesting. This is something that a lot of Companies should listen to.
Brian stepped up to the plate and did Table Topics, this was fun, Keith won the award for the evening, congratulations Keith.
Keith, Ken . and George where our evaluators for the evening. Thank-You.
For Audrey we had a round table evaluation and likewise for the whole meeting.
Our next meeting will be June 2nd and after the regular meeting we will be having an Executive meeting.
Our year end Banquet will be June 23rd. we will be going to a Restaurant but no decision has been made as to which one yet.

May 19, 2005 Meeting
Hello Fellow Toastmasters.
Last night was another fun filled evening. We did not have a lot of members out however this only proves that our club can be small but still fantastic.
Allan did the call to order. He had no chance to prepare anything as he agreed at the last minute to do this.
Good job Allan. Brenda was our Loyal Toast and Timer, Thanks Brenda. Audrey was our Language Enricher and with the theme being Victoria Day she choose the work Prudent which when you think about it, this word well describes the Queens such as Queen Victoria whom we have to thank for this holiday. We had no literary corner, I rushed out of the house and forgot to take the material along that I had prepared.(sounds like a cheap excuse to me).
Jane was our gracious chairperson and Jane, you did a great job, you took the time between speakers to share some history with us about this special weekend coming up. Like always, you where well prepared. Thank-you Jane.
We had two speakers, Linda D and Linda P. Both speakers where well prepared and gave excellent speeches. Congratulations to Linda P who will now be receiving her CTM. Brenda and Harvey where the evaluators.
Adrienne was our Table Topics Chairperson, Adrienne gave us all a chance to speak on what we would do if the Queen stopped in for a visit on the long weekend. Allan won this contest, he said he would be processing bull calves and that he would include Her Majesty in the activities, this I would like to see.
Keith was our Quizmaster for this evening. Thank-you Keith.
I was General Evaluator for the evening, I could only come up with one grow point for the whole evening.
When it came to anything for the good of Toastmasters, Brenda filled us in on how our club was doing this year and she also mentioned the officers training that is availabe in June.

Another great evening was enjoyed by all who attended last night. It was Election Time.
John (President Elect.) started off with the Call to Order and then our new Seargeant At Arms gave the Toast.
I chaired the meeting and it was fun. We now have a new executive in place for the following season and at this time I would like to congratulate everyone of them and wish them the best.
Even though the meeting was running a bit late we still took time for Table Topics. Brenda chaired this portion of the meeting and Ken tied with Erinne one of new members.
Erinne along with Linda D and Felix where inducted last night. (We need to get some more pins and also their name tags made up).
After the regular meeting we talked a bit about the Year End Banquet, however a decision was not reached.
We decided to wait until next weeks meeting to take another vote as to whether we would like to have a pot luck dinner at the church or go to a restaurant, this is something you may want to think about before the next meeting.
Linda M gave a wonderful speech for Jane who could not be there last night, Jane was elected as our new Vice President of Education.
I know Jane wrote her own speech but the way Linda presented it WOW. Linda, did you ever think of getting into Politics?

May 5th, 2005 Meeting - Irony
Linda P chaired the entire meeting with great ease! What a fantastic job!
Our word for the evening was limbate, adjective,meaning border, colour boarded by another colour given by Allan M. George N gave the loyal toast and was timer for the entire meeting.
Literary Corner was given by Keith S on how to win successfully in certain circumstances in dealing with customer service personnel.
Brenda K gave an educational module on Moments of Truth. Excellent feedback from members on how our club can grow and improve. Jane S conducted Table Topics with a different twist, with a member selecting a garage sale item and thanking the other member for the particular item. Winners of the Table Topics were Keith S and Brian C.
Brian C gave the club some areas to improve upon with our general evaluation.
Congratulations to Audrey O who earned her ATM-Silver Award!

Jane S conducted Table Topics with a different twist, with a member selecting a garage sale item and thanking the other member for the particular item. Winners of the Table Topics were Keith S and Brian C.
Brian C gave the club some areas to improve upon with our general evaluation.

Next meeting
Everyone is invited to attend the next meeting of the Linguists of Listowel Toastmaster Club. We will meet at St Pauls Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 28th. The meeting will start at 7:14 pm.
It will be a fun evening with lots of laughter. We will learn new words, listen to exciting speakers and learn with an Educational Module. Everyone will have a chance to participate in Table Topics.
